Pryor’s Ebbony Alvarez – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by VYPE

There are people in each of our lives that we look up to as examples for us to shape our lives after. Ebbony Alvarez says that the person she admires most is the person she is closest to – her mother.

“I would have to say that my mom is my biggest role model,” she said. “She is everything that I dream of being and more. She truly showed me how to live a faithful and fulfilling life.”

Alvarez is a senior at Pryor High School. She is a member of the track and cross-country teams, both of which she began in the seventh grade. Outside of sports, she is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Another person that has made an impact on Ebbony’s life is Pryor’s track and cross-country coach, Melissa Harlow, who has helped Alvarez learn the importance of hard work.

“Coach Harlow is by far my favorite teacher,” she said. “I have no idea where I would be if it were not for her. She has taught me that I have to work hard for what I want, both in life and in running. But she also helped me understand to have fun while doing it. I am so thankful for her.”

Becoming the athlete that she is today has not been easy work for Ebbony. She has done a lot to grow and become better.

“It has taken a lot of training,” she said. “Also, a lot of practicing certain things. I have had to make sure that everything is perfect, especially for me. And most of all, just relying on this strength and athleticism that I get from my great God.”

Throughout her career, Alvarez has experienced some great moments, but says that the time spent with her team are the moments she will not forget.

“The highlight moments for me I would say would be in the times when we are all together and wanting to achieve this same feeling of winning and greatness,” Ebbony stated.
