Northeast Area Football Preview – Sequoyah Claremore and Inola – Presented By Per4mance Physical Therapy

CLAREMORE SEQUOYAH EAGLES

Coach – ROB GILBREATH

OFFENSE

Building on the success of 2020, head coach Rob Gilbreath is excited to see what this group can accomplish with several key players returning to the lineup. “Should be an exciting year,” said Gilbreath. “We are coming off a winning season and have a lot if the pieces returning. Hopefully COVID will not affect our playoff run this season. Last year it ended it for us.” Logan Hattaway (5-10, 170, Jr.) rushed for 1,000 yards last season and is expected to be the featured back in 2021. Josh Harwell (6-0, 165, Sr.) added over 600 yards rushing giving the Eagles a nice one-two punch, out of the backfield. Dawson Rudd (6-5, 270, Sr.) is a big reason the running game was successful last year. Add Jacob Helt (6-2, 170, Sr.) to the offensive line and you have the nucleus of a solid unit up front. Brett Burks (6-0, 160, Jr.) will likely quarterback the Eagles this season after accounting for more than 500 yards passing. Dylan Piquet (5-8, 160, Jr.) is an all-around athlete the Eagles will use in multiple ways on offense.

DEFENSE

Harwell will start at linebacker on defense giving the Eagles someone who can run down running backs and make plays sideline-to-sideline. Rudd will start at defensive end with Helt. Both guys can disrupt opposing offenses and set the edge. Rudd is quick off the ball for a big guy and plays a fast, aggressive style. Caleb Harwell (6-0, 165, Jr.) will start at safety next to Carson Bickel (6-5, 170, Jr.). Both guys play downhill and cover very well. Saggie Hicks (6-0, 300, Jr.) is the run stopper in the middle of the defensive line. The Eagles will base in the 4-4. The coaching staff consists of Brannon Feese, Brad Farrow, Russell Morgan, Jesse Dorsch, Mike McClure and Javar Lewis.

INOLA LONGHORNS

Coach – TOMMY ROGERS

OFFENSE

The Longhorns enter the 2021 season ready to put last year behind them and start fresh this season. The new head coach, Tommy Rogers, likes the makeup of his team. “I am looking forward to a great combination of experience and youth,” he said. “We have great leaders in our upperclassmen and very talented underclassmen, which could make for a memorable season.” Tucker Ford (6-0, 160, Sr.) will lead the offense at quarterback. Returning to the offensive line this season are Radley Keener (6-0, 260, Jr.) at guard, Cason Thomas (5-10, 230, Sr.) playing tackle, and Jedd Barrett (6-0, 200, Sr.) who will play center but may play a little at fullback. Working to be an impact player on the outside will be Gavon Williams (5-10, 160, Sr.).

DEFENSE

Rogers’ squad has seven returning players from last year’s team that gave up over twenty points in six different games last season. They will have to clamp down on opposing defenses if they are going to improve on that statistic this season. Barrett and Keener will handle things on the defensive line, hoping to jam things up on the defensive line. Looking to lock things down in the secondary will be Christian Jones (6-3, 200, Sr.) and Ford. Taylor Pittser (5-10, 160, Sr.) will be back at outside linebacker and will be a key player this season.
