Verdigris’ Daeya Moses – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Northeast Tech

By Derrick Smith

Role models can play a big role in the development of high school students. Not only do they impact their way of thinking, but they can also have an influence on what they decide to do with their future. Daeya Moses says that the biggest influences in her life have helped her become the person she is today.

“Both of my parents are my biggest influences,” she said. “They have shown me that no matter the diversity or obstacles that you encounter if you stay true to yourself and face them head-on you will be successful.”

Moses is a senior at Verdigris High School. She plays shortstop for the Lady Cardinal softball team, a sport that she has played for about fourteen years.

Daeya also attends Northeast Tech Center, where she is in the Criminal Justice program. Daeya says that she settled on that program for a few different reasons.

“I heard about Northeast Tech from the reps that visited our school,” she said. “I decided to interview for the criminal justice class because it would get my foot in the door and give me a chance to see if i want to study criminal justice in college. All the staff was very helpful and influenced my decision also because they genuinely cared for me and my future.”

She says that attending Northeast Tech has helped Moses plan for her future and she says she would recommend it to others too.

“After I graduate, I plan on going to college to play softball and studying criminal justice,” she said. “After that, I hope to go to work for the FBI. I would definitely recommend going to tech to anyone considering it. You get the feel of what it would be like in college, and everyone there is ready to help you further your education and passions.”

As an athlete, Moses says that she has made a lot of great memories on the field and with her teammates. She says that a recent victory would have to be her favorite.

“The highlight moment of my career would be when we played Hilldale this year,” she stated. “It wasn’t the win that made it memorable, it was the fight and determination we had. This team will forever be my favorite team I have ever stepped on the field with.”
