Locust Grove Pirates Basketball Previews – Presented by RibCrib

BOYS
Coach: Brandon Heath
20-21 Record: 8-8

Entering his fourth season as head coach at Locust Grove High School, Brandon Heath feels that his team has what it takes to compete at a very high level. “We have a chance to have a very solid team this season with a lot of depth,” Heath said. With key players in David Fogleman (5-11, Sr.), Eli Bond (6-4, Jr.), and Tashown Shamel (6-4, Sr.) returning on the court, they have the talent, and it just comes down to building more team chemistry. “If guys will understand roles and buy in, it has a chance to be a very fun season,” Heath said. With multiple weapons that can contribute to various aspects of the game, success is only a matter of time for Locust Grove. The Pirates have the potential to be a very, very deep team, with Cayson King (6-0, Fr.), Calvin Blackbear (6-0, Sr.), Kaden Walkingstick (5-10, Jr.), Jack Blair (5-10, Jr.), Peyton Schmitt (5-10, Jr.), Keiden Ballou (5-10, Sr.), Zayden Dreadfullwater (6-1, Sr.), and Colton Rhodes (6-0, Sr.) all expecting to get some playing time. Expect the Pirates to turn some heads this upcoming season.

GIRLS
Coach: Terry Sweeney
20-21 Record: 16-6

The Locust Grove Lady Pirates look to build on their success from a year ago after posting a 16-6 record. They bring back some talent and court experience, which are areas they think they will use to their advantage. “We have two starters returning, another player that started half the time, and three other players that came off the bench with major playing time last season,” said head coach Terry Sweeney. Sweeney enters his third season leading the Lady Pirates. Returning players include Bailey Wiggins (5-9, Jr.), Peytin Gilman (5-10, Sr.), Sloane Sweeney (5-6, So.), Adrianne Fine (5-7, Jr.), Mollee Thilges (5-10, Sr.), and Tierra Williams (5-9, Jr.). Coach Sweeney feels his team has the opportunity to have a successful season due to their hard work and dedication throughout the offseason, as well as over the summer. The team has shown that they are hungry to win more games and will all help do whatever it takes to help the team succeed. The Lady Pirates have what it takes to possibly make a run in Class 3A.
