Claremore’s Zette Erwin – presented by Red crown credit union

By Derrick Smith

Athletes put in many hours of hard work in order to be the best that they can be. Zette Erwin says that she has put in her time, and it has helped her become the athlete she is today.

“My success in soccer has come from hard work, dedication, and a good support system,” she said. “I play both high school and club soccer. Club soccer is almost year-round, and I have practice three times a week with usually two games a weekend. When the high school season starts up, I often finish high school practice and then drive straight to club practice. I have been blessed to have opportunities and support that not everyone gets. I would not be where I am today without these things.”

Erwin is a senior at Claremore High School. She first began playing soccer when she was three years old, and it has been a part of her life since.

Throughout her life and career, Zette says that she has had some great people that have helped her get to where she is today.

“Some of my biggest influences or role models are my mom and my coaches,” she said. “Growing up, my mom was always my biggest role model. I wanted to make all-state in soccer and be valedictorian just like she was. My mom is the hardest worker I know and has always pushed me to give 110 percent. She has supported me all throughout my athletic and academic careers. All of my coaches throughout the years have been great influences. I am blessed to have two amazing high school coaches. The Claremore Lady Zebra Soccer program is lucky to have coaches Jahn and Talbert. Both coaches care about the success of the team as well as the growth of the individual. They prepare us every season and teach us things we can apply to our life outside of soccer. I know I can go to them with anything, and I am so grateful for them.”

Along with soccer, Erwin is also a member of the National Honor Society, Christian Club, Young Republicans Club, and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
