Pryor’s Kayley Alt – Student of the month presented by northeast tech

By Derrick Smith

While most kids may enjoy a couple of subjects in school, they usually have one that they really enjoy the most. For Kayley Alt, that would be science. And while she was never sure what exactly she wanted to do for a career, she knew it would involve science. Northeast Tech is allowing her that opportunity.

“I love science and have always known that I want to go into a field where I get to work with animals,” she said. “The Veterinary Assisting program at Northeast Tech seemed like a good opportunity for me to see if this is actually something I want to do. I think it’s preparing me for my future career because I’m learning how to take care of and restrain different types of animals and I’m also learning anatomy/physiology which will definitely help me in the future.”

Alt attends the Claremore Campus of Northeast Tech. She says she first heard about it from some friends, and it is now something she would recommend to others.

“My friends took Cosmetology at the Pryor Campus,” she recalled. “Mrs. Paula, the counselor for the Claremore Campus, came to our school and talked about Claremore’s veterinary assisting program and I knew I wanted to do that. I would highly recommend Northeast Tech because it is a lot of fun. Everyone at the campus is so helpful and nice, and you are able to learn a lot of new things.”

A junior at Pryor High School, Kayley is a dual-sport athlete, playing basketball and tennis. She says that success in sports is determined by how much you are willing to sacrifice for it.

“To be successful in sports really comes down to how much time you’re willing to put into them,” she stated. “Trying new things in practice, staying after to get better and always giving your best will definitely show in the games.”

Throughout her athletic career, Alt has enjoyed a lot of moments alongside her teammates. But she says that there is one moment that stands out to her the most.

“A highlight of my basketball career would be winning MVP of the Pryor and Oologah tournaments this year,” she said. “And for tennis, it would be making it to the state tournament last year.”
