The 2022 season could be somewhat of a transitional year for the Verdigris cheer team. Despite some inexperience, the squad is excited for the season and looking forward to growing as a team. Head coach Amy Myers said the team has accepted the challenge.
“Verdigris cheer is actually going through a growing year with only six upper classman and the bulk of the team being freshmen and sophomores. They are rising to the challenge and pushing themselves to learn and grow,” said coach Myers.
A cheerleader since the seventh grade, Averee Bressie brings experience and leadership to the team.
“Averee leads the team and helps teach the team. Her leadership and knowledge is valuable in a rebuilding year,” said coach Myers.
Bressie, alongside Alexis Parsons, have taken on the leadership roles in a big way. Parsons, like Bressie, has cheered for Verdigris since the seventh grade and is excited to see what the future holds for the program.
“Alexis has it all, leadership, jumps, tumbling and great knowledge of the sport. Alexis has made camp All-Star two-years in a row and has been invited to participate in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade,” said coach Myers.
Other team members to watch include Reese Willhite, Abigail Myers, and Jordyn Lederman.
