Caney Valley’s Dalton Conner – FFA Spotlight – Presented by OK Ag Credit

Caney Valley High School senior Dalton Conner is a member of the varsity football and baseball teams and is an active member of the FFA. As a football player, Conner said he loves being around his team and competing with them on Friday nights.

“The thing I love most about being on the football team is the friends, the competition, and the memories that me and the team get to share for a lifetime,” said Conner.

As a member of the FFA chapter at Caney Valley, Conner said he enjoys showing and shooting.

“I am involved in pig and steer showing, skeet shooting, and I raise sows to breed and raise show pigs,” said Conner. “Showing and skeet shooting would probably be my favorite part of FFA.”

Conner first joined FFA thanks to an older sibling and the encouragement of his family.

“I joined FFA because of my older sister that was in FFA and joining her when she would do FFA activities got me interested,” said Conner. “It was a mixture of my dad and sister because of the way of life I live I thought I could learn some stuff that I could use around the house.”

Last year Conner was showing pigs and cattle, but this year he has focused on steers.

“So far this year I have a shorthorn steer and angus steer and am hoping to do really good with them in this upcoming show season,” said Conner.

The senior mentioned his grandfather as someone who has been a role model throughout his life.

“I look up to my grandpa Doyle because he was a big influence in my life and taught me a lot about being a good person and how to solve problems with ease,” said Conner.

His plans for the future include trade school once he has graduated. Conner offered some advice for anyone curious about the FFA. “The advice I would give to someone coming up and considering getting into FFA is the projects you get to do, the friends you get to make, and the adventures you get to go on are worth it,” said Conner. “My plans for after high school is going to trade school and get into welding or electrical work.”
