Grove’s Elliot Geer – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By TH Rogers Lumber Company

Throughout their career, no matter how long or short it is, an athlete wants to always improve their skills and abilities. Elliot Geer knows that being successful is what she want to do and continually getting better will help her achieve that goal.

“My motivation when I play sports is to be a better athlete than I was the year before,” she said. “In order to be successful in anything you do, it takes sacrifice. That sometimes means missing the Fourth of July parties to attend a basketball tournament and having to cancel plans for any sport.”

Elliot is a junior at Grove High School, where she plays softball, basketball, and runs track. Outside of sports, she serves as marketing chairman on the student council. She is also a member of the Interact Club, Character Counts, Heritage Club, and Safety Committee.

The head coach of the Grove softball team, Jeremy Collins, says that Geer is an exemplary teammate and athlete and he applauds her consistent work ethic.

“Elliot stepped into a new position last year playing third base for us,” Collins said. “She led the team in stolen bases. She does anything that is asked of her and is always looking for ways to improve.”

There have been a number of people that have had an impact on Elliot’s life over the span of her career, but she has one person that stands out.

“Coach Culwell, who is the head football coach, is my biggest influence,” she said. “He always pushes me beyond what I believe I am capable of, and he doesn’t see me as a female athlete, just an athlete.”

Geer and her teammates have a number of different opponents that they face throughout the season. And while she does not have a specific opponent that she enjoys beating, but she does have a type of team.

“I enjoy beating private schools,” she said. “They believe that they are superior to public schools and proving them wrong is so fulfilling.”
