Fairland’s Kinley Powell – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Grand Savings Bank

Athletes work hard so that they can be successful when they step on the field or court. And throughout their career, they can have special moments that mean a lot to them for one reason or another. Kinley Powell plays multiple sports for Fairland High School, but she says that one moment on the softball field is her favorite by far.

“The highlight of my career was winning regionals my freshman year and making it to the state tournament,” she said. “It was awesome and I will never forget that experience.”

As a senior at Fairland, Powell plays softball, basketball, and runs track for the Owls. During her career, Kinley has worked hard so that she can enjoy moments like going to the state tournament.

“It has taken a lot of practice, time, and dedication in order for me to be successful,” she said. “You have to do stuff on your own time in order to be successful. You should always work hard, especially when you think no one is watching.”

The work she has put in has been important but Powell also has had a lot of people that have helped her along the way.

“My parents are my biggest role models,” she said. “They always push me to do my best in everything that I do, and show me that with hard work i will be successful. They also keep me motivated because they make me want to get better in everything I do. My teacher, Mrs. Shaw has also had a big impact on my life. She is one of the smartest people I have ever met and i know i can always go to her about everything.”

Chad Ross is the head softball coach at Fairland and for him, Kinley is a solid player and an outstanding teammate.

“Kinley can play anywhere on the field and she provides great leadership for the underclassmen,” Ross said. “She  goes above and beyond expectations every day.”

Away from sports, Powell also serves as president of the National Honor Society, as well as class secretary. She is also a member of the Gifted and Talented program.
