Verdigris Cardinals Boys Basketball Preview – Presented by Red Crown Credit Union

Coach: Chris Houk

21-22 Record: 23-5

The Cardinals will need a few games to figure out who they are as they enter the 2022-23 season with a few unanswered questions. Head coach Chris Houk is in his 12th season and is looking forward to seeing how this group shakes out. “We have two returning starters from last year along with three players that got significant playing time. There will be ample opportunities for inexperienced players to show what they can do. The team and coaches are looking forward to a great season and competing every opportunity we get,” said coach Houk.

One player expected to make his presence felt again this season is Cody Lechlider (6-4, Jr.). Last season he averaged 14 points a game and shot 30 percent from three-point land. He also averaged 5.0 rebounds a game. Sophomore Braxton Repschlaeger (6-3) saw limited action a year ago, but he has the passion and the energy to break into the starting lineup. Repschlaeger will get after it on both ends of the floor.

Other players to watch include Caden Parnell (5-11, Sr.), Ian Meador (6-0, Jr.), Brady Teague (6-0, Sr.), Brant Teague (6-0, Sr.), Jadyn Robertson (5-9, Fr.), Tyler Willis (5-11, Jr.), Dylan White (6-0, Sr.), Jonah Scott (5-11, Sr.), and Jase Large (6-2, Sr.). Assistant coaches are Derick Ott and Jake Everett. Team managers are Markel Kenworthy and Rhyan McMillan.
