Verdigris Cardinals Girls Basketball Preview – Presented by Red Crown Credit Union

Coach: Mike Buntin

21-22 Record: 22-4

Expectations are high as head coach Mike Buntin returns several players to the lineup this season with excellent experience. “We return our top six scorers from last year including one of the top players in the state in Morgan Borgstadt. We will continue to rely heavily on our tough physical style of man-to-man defense. But we expect to be even more explosive on offense with development of young players Kate Wiginton, Maddy Daniels, Bobbi Jones and Maegan Fuller. Brynlee Brown will be a tremendous asset on offense,” said coach Buntin.

Morgan Borgstadt (6-0, Sr.) averaged 20 points and 5.0 rebounds a game last year. She has led the team in scoring for the last three seasons and is committed to play college basketball at the University of Texas-Martin. Maddy Daniels (5-2, Jr.) averaged 7.0 points with 4.0 assists last year, while Kate Wiginton (5-6, So.) averaged 6.0 points a game as a freshman. Both are expected to have solid seasons.

Catoosa transfer Brynlee Brown (5-7, Jr.) is a nice compliment to the offense. Brown could be the X-factor for the Lady Cards this year. Ciara Daniel (5-8, Sr.) is another solid player who averaged 7.0 points a year ago.

Others who will contribute this year are Brooklyn Fugate (5-6, Sr.), Bobbi Jones (5-8, Jr.), Adalyn Waters (5-8, Jr.), Emma Young (5-9, So.), Maegan Fuller (5-11, So.), and Courtney Wickham (5-3, Sr.). Assistant coaches are Bryan Wesson and Stacia Roberts.
