Miami’s Jericho Burrow – Student-Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Goodfella’s Pizzeria

A student’s four years of high school can sometimes seem to fly by and it is over before they realize it. While they have enjoyed their time and all the things they are a part of, once they walk across the stage and receive their diploma, they will no longer be high school students.

This is something that Jericho Burrow is starting to come to terms with.

“This being my last year in all of my sports is what motivates me,” she stated. “At every practice and game, I think to myself that I won’t be here next year playing so I need to play my heart out now.”

Burrow is a student at Miami High School. She is a cheerleader and powerlifter and plays soccer. As a member of the Lady Wardog athletic program, she has brought home or been a part of a few awards.

She was the powerlifting regional champion this year. She also set two state records in the squat and deadlift during her senior year. In 2019, her cheer team was the regional champions and the 2021 academic state champions.

This year, Burrow was selected as the homecoming queen. Away from athletics, she has been on the student council for all four years of high school and has been a member of the National Honor Society for two years.

As a student in the classroom, Jericho has had a number of teachers that she has been able to learn from, but she has one that had the biggest impact on her.

“The teacher that has influenced me the most is my seventh-grade English teacher, Mrs. Buckner,” she said. “She always pushed me in my sports but in the classroom as well.”

Though she has had some great moments during competition, Burrow says that her victories are her favorite moments.

“I have a few highlights of my career,” she said. “Being an individual powerlifting state champion my sophomore year and runner up my junior year. Also being on the girls powerlifting team that has been state champions three years in a row and hoping for another one this year.”
