Fairland’s Mia Jacobs – Student-Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Grand Savings Bank

Mia Jacobs loves to cheer on her Fairland Owls to victory.

While she enjoys cheering at games, she says that there is a lot of preparation involved in getting to that point. But she and her teammates do a great job of working together and being prepared.

“Hard work and practice have always helped me the most,” Jacobs said. “My main focus is to be a good team leader and anytime we have a win or accomplishment we all are proud.

“My co-captain, Haleigh does a great job of making everyone better. She is such a good leader and experienced athlete when it comes to cheering but I love cheering alongside her and I’m going to miss being co-captain with her when she graduates.”

A sophomore at Fairland High School, Jacobs is a co-captain on the cheer team. She is also a member of the Owls track team, and outside of sports, she is a member of the FCCLA.

In sports and in life, Jacobs has had a number of people that have influenced her life and helped her become who she is today.

“Coach Maddie is my biggest influence because she shows me how to keep pushing when I’m tired,” Jacobs said. “And she always encourages us to be the best that we can. She is the glue to this team and we all love her.

“My teacher, Mrs. Shaw has had a big impact on my life because she encourages us to push ourselves to learn and enjoy what we are learning. I never liked science until I got her as a teacher, she makes learning fun.”

Being a student-athlete, it can be a tough balance between school work, athletics, and having a life. Jacobs knows that it may be tough but it has to be done.

“Yes it can be difficult but that is my responsibility not only as a student but an athlete so that I am able to play the sports that I love,” she said.

When she has downtime, Jacobs enjoys going to church, reading, and hanging out with family and friends.
