Hunter Todd is one of six high school juniors who start on the Vinita varsity baseball team. Last season, Todd became a first-year starter at second base. This year head coach Jim Zickefoose expects Todd to start at shortstop while also being in the rotation as one of the starting pitchers for the Hornets.

“I enjoy shortstop better because I’m getting more action,” Todd said. “I’ve enjoyed working hard with the new position in the offseason and will continue to improve throughout the season.”

At the plate, Todd will bat in the two-hole thanks to his ability to work the count and get on base.

“[Hunter’s] a student of the game and has a great work ethic,” Zickefoose said. “He’s a good teammate too, and I expect him to have a pretty good year. He’s just a solid player and is a great kid academically as well.”

Outside of athletics, Todd is involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and National Honor Society. He also helped out with the Vinita softball squad as one of the team managers. Upon graduation, Todd would like to attend either the University of Nebraska or Oklahoma State University to study sports medicine and pursue a career as a sports physician.

Todd tributes his dad, Richard, for his constant willingness to get better as a baseball player.

“He’s always been there for me and is always pushing me to get better,” Todd said. “Every time I mess up, he will let me know about it so I can learn from it next time.”
