Now a sophomore at Afton High School, Delani Johnson plays three sports and loves every minute of it.
“I play softball, basketball, and track,” said Johnson. “I have so many memories for each sport. For track I had a blast at the state track meet. Before the 1600-meter relay me and another girl and the four runners will get in a huddle and get hyped up so hopefully we can get excited before we run.”
Johnson also splits time as a member of the local FFA chapter.
“Eighth grade was my first year I was able to be in FFA and years before that my brother was big in it, so I always got to be around FFA. A lot of my family has been in it as well,” said Johnson. “I love meeting all the people you get to meet in it and learning to be better at public speaking. I love the friendships.”
Currently serving as an officer for the FFA chapter at Afton, Johnson said she’s enjoyed the activities she’s involved in with the chapter.
“I’m the secretary of our chapter and I’ve judged and did speech in previous years,” said Johnson.
The sophomore encourages others to join FFA and to be open to try new things.
“My advice to others is to open up and don’t be afraid to go talk to people and make friends. Don’t be afraid to try public speaking because you think you won’t be good enough. If you think you are interested in being an officer, go for it,” said Johnson.
Johnson said whether it’s FFA or athletics, she loves being around her teammates.
“I love how we all get along so well and support each other in whatever we do and the decisions we make. We always try and stick together,” said Johnson.
Already looking towards college, Johnson said she would love to attend NEO and OSU to play basketball and major in Ag Education.
