Eyan Williams -a senior at Colcord- plays tight end, outside linebacker, and defensive end for the Hornets. For Williams, talent might make someone a good football player, but work ethic is what separates the good ones from the great ones.
“When I think about great players I am reminded of my favorite quote, ‘hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.,’” Williams said.
Williams also knows that leadership is fundamental to being successful on the field and going into his senior season he looks to do so both on and off the field for Colcord this season.
“I think that another attribute of a great player is being able to affect the people around you in a positive way. Great players are able to make both themselves and their teammates better.”
Williams has shown his maturity and success in the classroom as well. Coaches speak highly of his character and it’s no wonder he earned the status of a VYPE Top 100 player. Williams thanks his parents for their support and encouragement throughout his career thus far.
“My parents are my biggest role models,” Williams said. “My dad introduced me to football and taught me how to catch. My mom taught me how to be a good leader and taught me the value of good sportsmanship. My parents never miss a game and they always support me in both athletics and academics.”
Williams has big plans for this fall. He wants to see his team win their district and make a deep run into the playoffs.
“I believe that with the talent we have and the work we have put in this summer, we can do just that. But with that being said, we can’t be complacent with just having a good summer. We have to carry over our progress from the summer into this fall,” Williams said.
This year Williams hopes to create some more memorable moments in his final season before going to college next year where he hopes to earn a football scholarship and play at the next level.
“My favorite memory happened last season in the first round of the playoffs. We beat Okemah 53-52. It was the most exciting and nerve-wracking game I have ever been a part of,” Williams said.
