Grand Lake Area Baseball Players to Watch – Presented By NEO Orthopedics & Rehabilitation

Cale Epperson – Commerce

Cale is a returning starting pitcher and infielder. He is a junior this season and has worked extremely hard in the offseason to get better. He had a good year last year on the mound and gave his team opportunities in multiple games either on the mound or in the batter’s box. Cale is a coachable kid that listens well and is always trying to learn the game and improve his game to better the team.

Cason Renfrow & Sam Lollar – Fairland

Cason hit a .421 average last season and was 4-1 on the mound, while Sam hit a .379 average and was also 4-1 on the mound. Both will be asked to play multiple positions this year and both are great young men to lead this team.

Hunter Wall – Grove

Leader of the group and makes the guys better. He will play shortstop and third base and may pitch some. Hunter will hit in the middle of the order.

Rowdy Mullin – Ketchum

Hard worker and a very coachable player that wants to play at the next level. Rowdy is a junior and will be a three-year starter at shortstop, pitches, and bats leadoff.

Deacon Shapp – Quapaw

Led the team in home runs and RBIs last season. Shapp will play first base and close out games for the team. A great human being and an outstanding team player.

Hunter Todd – Vinita

Plays pitcher and shortstop, Hunter has excellent control and a reliable bat. Wilson will look to have a big season for the Hornets.

Deighton Bellew – Welch

Deighton has been an interior infield player, mostly playing second base and shortstop. He also is a regular pitcher for the Wildcats. He may be small in stature but plays beyond his physical limitations. He can make the big play, whether that be a big catch and throw or a timely hit to move runners. Deighton is also a leader on the team, showing up to practices in the right mental state to keep the other players pushing themselves.

UNDERCLASSMEN TO WATCH

Brodie Simmons – Commerce

Brodie is a Freshman that has been around the game all of his life. He puts hours of time in to improve his game and is always quick to help others. He is young and has a bright future. Brodie is a kid that will do whatever is asked and he will play whatever position that you put him in. He pitches on a regular basis and is still working on his hitting. Brodie will be a player that could see some time on the field as an underclassman and can contribute this year.

Colt Kinsey – Fairland

Colt is a solid baseball player that will be asked to play second base, catcher, and pitch some this season.

Jayce Baser – Grove

With a roster full of seniors, Baser will be looking for a place to play. He will look to make a mark defensively and he will be pushing for a spot in the lineup.

Justin Johnson – Ketchum

Justin will be starting in center field. He plays hard and is an outstanding competitor. He is a two hole hitter and is a southpaw pitcher.

Jaxon Myrick – Quapaw

Myrick started as a freshman behind the plate and took his lumps. He will not have to carry the heavy load this season, as he will be splitting his time in the outfield and behind the dish.

Gunner Huffman – Vinita

An excellent defensive catcher, Gunner started as a freshman and can swing the bat.

Mason Clinton – Welch

Mason is a pure multisport athlete. He was a reliable player last season, keeping one of the team’s best batting averages. He also excels on the football field and basketball court. He will look to have a big season.

UNSUNG HEROES

Kamden Poteet – Commerce

Kamden is a sophomore who works hard and shows up when he needs to. Kam will see some time on the field as a pitcher and first baseman. He is a laid back kind of player and always has a good attitude. He will be able to contribute with his hitting and this year especially on the mound.

Jackson Mishmash – Fairland

Jackson has been a great leader this offseason and he has helped with new and inexperienced players. He had a good summer and has come to practice with a great work ethic.

Caden Gain – Grove

Gain is an outstanding competitor and he does a great job. He does all the little things to help his team compete.

Brycen Hopkins – Quapaw

An unselfish player, this will be Brycen’s third season of baseball for Quapaw. He does a great job of helping his teammates.

Nick Martins – Vinita

A sophomore lefty who throws strikes and gives his team a chance to win every time he toes the rubber.

Cruz Gonzales – Welch

Cruz is one of those players who does everything right but does not always get to reap the benefits of his hard work. He shows up to everything, whether it be hitting in a batting cage or working in new dirt on the infield. He always puts the team goals above his own wants and goals.
