Coach: AUSTIN GRAHAM
Kansas is relying heavily on its two seniors – pitcher/shortstop Josie Pollet and third baseman/ catcher Gracee Stanley – in 2023. They are two of seven returning starters from a team that went 22-15 overall last season under head coach Austin Graham. “We should be competitive in every game we play,” Graham said. Pollet brings back a big bat in the lineup after hitting .521 with five home runs and 22 RBIs
as a junior. She also posted a 2.70 earned run average and recorded 72 strikeouts from the pitcher’s circle. “Josie is one of the best competitors I have ever coached,” Graham said. “She has multiple offers to colleges and will be our leader on the field. Josie is one of the best teammates on our team, always there to pick one of her teammates in a rough spot. She led us in every offensive category her junior year and our coaching staff expects another great year from her.”
Stanley gives the Comets a lot of versatility as she’s able to play anywhere in the field. “Gracee has been a great team player for our team. She has been moved all over the field for us, I think the only position she hasn’t played is pitcher,” Graham said. “It takes a special kid to be unselfish and put the team first in every situation
but she does.”
Junior catcher/outfielder Ashlyn Potter has continued to progress, not only solidifying the catcher position but as a contributor offensively. “Ashlyn is one of our hardest workers day in and day out. She has become a great catcher and keeps getting better everyday as a hitter,” Graham said.
Shortstop/third baseman/pitcher Kaybree Blackbird will be expected to play a role as a freshman if she can recover from an injury she suffered on the basketball court. “Kaybree is coming off of a torn labrum tear she suffered in basketball. If she is
able to return, she will hit in the middle of the lineup and hold down shortstop,” Graham said.
Other juniors expected to contribute this season include infielder/pitcher River Davis
and outfielders Milly Mallow, Toriah Potter and Jayda Mejia. Outfielder Bayleigh Jobe, first baseman Mariah Harmon, infielder/outfielder Rylee Davis and outfielder Jay Miller will play roles as sophomores. Lorelai Pilcher and Abby Mitchel join Blackbird as freshmen on the Comets’ roster.
