Kylie Bird has made a big impact on the Locust Grove softball program under head coach Matt Tramel.
The junior and VYPE Top 100 selection was the Pirates’ team MVP as both a freshman and sophomore. She didn’t strike out a single time from the plate last year.
“Outstanding player who hits in the three hole and pitches for us,” Tramel said.
Bird is looking to get Locust Grove beyond the district tournament this season.
“I want to work hard and make sure I’m doing my part to help my team compete, and make it past districts,” she said.
The first baseman/pitcher went into the 2023 season with a strong focus on her mentality from the pitcher’s circle.
“I’ve improved most on my mentality, and not letting the things I can’t control affect what I do in the circle,” Bird said. “I’ve improved most on my pitching mechanics.
Bird’s biggest influence has been her dad.
“He put me in the sport at a young age and has put a lot of time and effort into helping me be the player I am,” she said.
Following her high school career, Bird plans to go to college and wants to become an OB/GYN nurse.
