Dayton McCall is the perfect piece for Bartlesville.
McCall, a senior guard and forward, helps hold the Bruins together on the basketball court and does a lot of the small things.
He’s the team’s unsung hero.
“He’s a glue guy who does all the little things well,” said Bartlesville head coach Clent Stewart. “He does all the hustle and effort things that no one else will do. He is active on the board and can make plays when the ball is in his hands.”
“I am the hustle guy,” McCall said. “I play defense, rebound, take charges, and push the ball in transition.”
McCall, who has been playing basketball since the first grade and likes playing pickleball, golf and Lego games during his free time, enjoys the atmosphere of home games as a student-athlete.
“I enjoy playing home games with my town of Bartlesville in the stands cheering us on,” he said.
The Bruins have struggled so far this season, but McCall, who says his teammates are like a brotherhood that supports him and encourages him to do his best, is optimistic going forward.
“As a team we’ve been struggling so far but we’re getting it figured out and should be ready for the upcoming conference games,” he said. “Individually, I think I’ve been playing pretty good but there’s always room to improve.”
McCall also plays defender for the Bruins soccer team and is a member of the National Honor Society, student council, chess club, and the interact club. He looks up to his parents as his biggest role models.
“My parents are the biggest role models for my life,” he said. “I value their dedication and support in all my endeavors, and look up to them. I am so thankful to have them as part of my life. Another person who has played a part in my life is my favorite teacher, Mr. Harper. He has taught me new ways to think about the world and helped prepare me for the future.”
