Bartlesville’s Parker Cox – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By City Church

As she competes in her final season of high school tennis, Parker Cox is looking to end her high school career with a bang. She says the team as a whole has played a big part in her success as an athlete.

I have confidence in my team this year because everyone is great at working together,” she said. “We also do a great job of encouraging one another. I really enjoy playing with all of them. Myself, I have high hopes for my last year, but I also just want to have fun and make the best of it.”

Parker has been playing tennis for about twelve years and has made a lot of memories over that time. And though the fun memories are her favorite, she says that there is one that has been the most impactful.

“Losing the second match at state last year was probably the toughest,” she recalled. “It really affected me mentally for a while because I felt like I had let myself and my team down, but it was a good learning experience.”

Competing on the tennis court is something that Cox enjoys being able to do. And while she likes playing, there are other aspects that she likes as well.

“I am always super excited for the state tournament,” she said. “With this being my senior year, I would love to place at state this year.”

There are a number of people that Parker looks up to as role models for a variety of
reasons. But she says that there is a professional tennis player that she looks up to.
“I have always looked up to Serena Williams,” she said. “She has a great game but I
definitely would not say my game is anything like hers.”

Hard work is an important part of being a successful athlete, no matter what sport you play. But Cox says that there is another part of the game that is just as important.

“My mental game has improved so much over the past few years and I think it’s definitely become a strength of mine at times.”

Parker has her plans ready for her days after high school She will be attending Oklahoma State University in the fall to study Sports Management.
