Jake LaSpisa

BOYS
Coach: Lance Knight
20-21 Record: 2-12

After a season that was cut short and affected by COVID-19, the Bulldoggers are ready to move on. With experienced head coach Lance Knight leading the team and a very experienced and hard-working group, the Bulldoggers feel they have what it takes to turn things around. Dewey bring back six players with a good amount of experience under their belts, including Jake LaSpisa (6-1, Sr.) who will look to lead his team on and off the court, setting a good example at all times for all of his fellow teammates. A new addition to the Bulldogger squad is Jace Williams (So.) who moved to Dewey over the summer and is expected to have an immediate impact. Clayton Evans gets praise from his coach for being one of the hardest workers on the team and looks to contribute to the team’s success. Other players such as Bryson Hudson (5-10, Sr.) and Hunter Perrier (6-0, Sr.) return for the Bulldoggers and look to use their experience, hard work, and knowledge of their roles to be key contributors for Dewey. Jacob Mouser (6-3, Sr.), Jeremiah Highsmith (6-5, Jr.), and Colby Miller (6-0, Jr.) are some other veteran players that will look to help lead this team to the promise land. Expect a big change from the Bulldoggers in the upcoming season, resulting in more marks in the win column.

GIRLS
Coach: Paul McCann
20-21 Record: 11-13

The Bulldoggers of Dewey High School are looking to use some veteran court experience to their advantage to shock class 3A. Bulldogs head coach Paul McCann enters his second season leading the team and feels they have a few players that will shine on the court. Returning three starters and a starting five that all has plenty of court experience, they feel they have the opportunity to succeed. Cheyan McDaniel (5-11, Sr.) will return to the court for her senior season after averaging 12 points per game a season ago. “She is a three year starter and an all-conference player who is being recruited by a number of schools,” said coach McCann. Gaby Higbee (5-7, Sr.) also returns to the court for Dewey and is another player that is expected to have a big impact for her team. A great all-around athlete, she looks to do various things for her team to give them the best chance at success. An underclassman that might not be on a lot of people’s radar is Maycee Smith (5-8, So.) who put up six points per game as a freshman and is expected to have a bigger role this season. Bulldogger fans will remember Kaleena Downing (5-4, Sr.) who will return to the hardwood for her senior season and is looking to add to the team’s success. The Bulldoggers return five players that averaged a combined 35 points per game, so their team’s court experience is very much relevant and is something that they feel sets them apart from opposing teams.
