Baseball is a game of numbers. Math is all about numbers. In business, one needs to know what kind of numbers the business is generating. Hunter Catlin, a senior centerfielder from Dewey, is a numbers kind of guy. This Bulldogger is putting up some good numbers on the field. He is batting .353 on the year with one home run, which was a grand slam.
Hunter, who likes math because it comes natural to him, gives credit to his older brother for getting him involved in baseball.
“I’ve been playing my whole life,” Hunter said. “My older brother played and that’s how I got into it.“
Hunter also attributes his success on the diamond to his head coach Riley Allen.
“He has had a huge impact on my life, in the short time that I have known him. I’ve never had a coach believe or had as much trust in me as he has.”
Micah Parsons, a linebacker with the Dallas Cowboys and David Goggins, a former Navy Seal who runs ultra marathons are two people that Hunter also admires.
“I love Micah Parsons and David Goggins. Them two (sic) inspire me, just by watching them be successful at anything that they do,” Hunter said, when asked if there was any celebrity that he may emulate.
After the high school season is over, Hunter plans on participating in a developmental program for high school baseball players in the state called Risin Baseball. According to their website, Risin is a program that focuses on the high school athlete while preparing them for the next level.
It looks like this youngster has a good head on his shoulders and knows the direction that he would like to take. It also appears that he really doesn’t want to have a boss in the “real” world. When asked why he wanted his own business, his answer was short and to the the point: “I just want to work for myself.”
Whether it’s running his own business or running down fly balls, this young man should be successful at whatever he sets his mind to.
