Dewey High School baseball player Parker Garrison recently spoke to VYPE about his plans for the season saying “I would like to lead my team in batting average and on base percentage, Maintain a low ERA at 3rd base, and I’d like to earn all-conference again and additionally earn all district.” Garrison went on to tell us that his favorite part of playing for Dewey is “Getting to play with some many of my friends.”
Among them sits Bronson Bridges who Garrison played ball with at his “2023 summer competitive team.” He said that Bridges “was very supportive and always encouraged me.” It’s safe to say that baseball has brought Garrison friends both on the Dewey team and off. All this to say that Garrison hasn’t just gained a lot from the game of baseball he has learned a lot too. “It has taught me discipline, how to deal with nerves in high stress situations, additionally it has taught me that if you want to be good at something you have to put in the extra work” said Garrison.
Garrison shared that he is inspired by “Logan Taylor (head coach of Sandlot 16u), he is a great coach, he made the game even more fun. Also, Mike Trout, his hitting inspired me to put in the work and get better at it.”
Of course he also wanted to shout out a few more people saying “thank you to my family, they always show up for me. My friends who push me to work hard and keep grinding. Coach Allen, thank you for believing in me, giving me an opportunity to get my name out in the community, and thank you for being so impactful on the changes to Dewey Baseball culture, lastly thank you for sticking with us! Coach Logan Taylor, thank you for your part in helping me develop into the baseball player I am today through batting, fielding, pitching and your continued support in reaching my future goals.”
