SOUTH COFFEYVILLE LIONS
Coach: DAVID PERKINS
0-10
OFFENSE
David Perkins takes over head coaching duties at South Coffeyville in 2023 after the Lions went winless last year. Perkins is experimenting with junior Clayton Kawik and freshman Max Adock as to who will lead the offense from the quarterback position. Kawik has the edge in experience. Junior Jaxon Mustain and sophomore Jayden Liddell will both see time at running back. Liddell is more of a downhill power runner, while Mustain is more elusive. Sophomore Ben Adock and freshman Karter Koehler will see roles at receiver. Adock is sure-handed and has quickness, and Koehler has size at 6-foot-2 and leaping ability. “We’ll base out of an unbalanced formation on offense but being undersized on the offensive line we’ll often spread things out,” Perkins said.
DEFENSE
Abe Therse is a solid open-field tackler and will lead the Lions’ secondary from a cornerback position as a returning starter. Junior Emmitt Hills and junior Gabe Arredondo are both returning starters on the defensive line and will provide help to freshman newcomer Kaden Cowels, who will line up at nose guard. “On defense, we’ll base out of a 3-2,” Perkins said. “Despite going winless a year ago, I believe the pieces are in place to be successful. We had great participation during the summer. Kids are excited about a new beginning as am I. The Lions will have a successful fun season.”
