Emma Zimmerman is just a freshman but she’s already making an impact for the Lady Bruins’ basketball team.

Zimmerman is giving Bartlesville valuable minutes at the guard positions.

“I think I’m getting some great experience being able to play varsity as a freshman,” Zimmerman said. “I think we’re doing well considering how young our team is. We had two tough opponents for our first two games and the games we lost we were very competitive in.”

The Lady Bruins were 6-10 through their first 16 games under head coach Justyn Shaw, who is in his second year with the program.

“[Emma’s] a really good defender and plays key varsity minutes for us,” Shaw said.

Zimmerman offers a variety of skills on the hardwood.

“I’m a good shooter, I rebound well for a guard, and I play good defense,” said Zimmerman, who has played basketball for 10 years and enjoys all of the traveling that comes with the sport.

“I enjoy getting to travel and playing basketball with my teammates,” she said. “Especially in the summer when we get to play at team camps.”

Being a freshman, Zimmerman relies on her teammates to lean on when the going gets tough.

“They mean a lot to me,” she said. “They always pick me up if I get down on myself. They push me to get better by putting in extra work after practice.”

During her free time, Zimmerman enjoys hanging out with her friends.
