Afton’s Lyndee Mikesell – Multisport Athlete Spotlight – Presented by State Farm

Team sports require more than just individual athletes to be at their best. The team also has to have good chemistry and communication with each other in order to reach the group’s goals.

Afton’s Lyndee Mikesell says that while she has put in a lot of work, her teammate has played a considerable role in her success.

“It definitely takes practice and being motivated to work hard so that you can be successful,” she said. “My teammates help me stay motivated because we push each other in practice every day. All of my teammates are fun to compete with in practice because we are all very close to each other and very competitive.”

As a junior at Afton High School, Lyndee plays softball and basketball and also runs track. Outside of sports, she is also a member of the National Honor Society, student council, FCCLA, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the yearbook, and the Interact Club. As an athlete and person, Mikesell has had many people that have been influential to her life and helped her become who she is today.

“My biggest influences would have to be my family,” she said. “They are always wanting me to do my best and they are there to support me. Someone else that has been a role model for me is my history teacher and softball coach, Kelcee Henry. She motivates me to be a good student in the classroom and player on the field.”

Throughout her career, Lyndee has enjoyed making a lot of great memories. She enjoyed them all but has one that she ranks as her favorite.

“I would have to say that the highlight moment of my career was playing in the area tournament during my sophomore year,” she recalled. “It was a huge accomplishment and it felt great to achieve it alongside my teammates.”
