Quapaw’s Naomi Daugherty – Student-Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Grove Dental Associates

Naomi Daugherty has worked hard to get to where she is today. But she also knows that she would not have been able to make it without some really amazing people that have helped her become the person and athlete that she is today.

“I have a lot of role models in my life that I am truly thankful for,” Daugherty said. “The first is God for giving me the ability to play. He’s the reason I’m out there and who I play for. Next is my dad because he always makes it a point to make sure I’m doing the little things right and has my best interest at heart. Also, my mom because she instilled fundamental things in me from the start that have a huge impact on my game now. My parents are my biggest fans, biggest influences, and greatest role models.

“Mailey Sharp is one of my teammates that has influenced me a lot, she pushes me, gets hyped with me, and is always down to have a conversation about athletics and good morals. She wants what’s best for my career and has always been one of my biggest supporters. I know she has my back.”

As a junior at Quapaw High School, Naomi is a member of the basketball, softball, and cheer teams. She also serves as the president of the Quapaw Fellowship of Christian Athletes club and as the treasurer of their Future Farmers of America chapter. She is also a member of the National Honor Society.

While it takes a lot of work and dedication in order to be the best you can be, Daugherty says there is one thing that some people may not realize but it has helped her become the athlete that she is.

“Failure is a big key to my success,” she said. “Without failures, I would have no drive to become better at the things I’m not good at and expand my game. Obviously, to have this sort of ‘failing’ mindset I also have to come to every practice ready to work hard and push myself. Without failure, effort, and a good attitude I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
