Always trying to help out whenever her kids have been in sports has earned Chouteau’s Sheila Hardy the title of Mayes County Mom of the Month. She feels honored to be receiving this recognition.
“Not sure I deserve that kind of thing and not sure volunteering is really what you call it,” said Sheila. “I like to make the kids feel special.”
Volunteering for her children’s sporting teams as well as other things is something that Sheila truly enjoys and for her it is all about doing good for someone else.
“I like to serve others and I try to always have a smile for people,” Sheila said.
Not having a certain title or role does not stop this mom from helping out as much as she possibly can. Helping to run the concession stands whenever she can as well as serving the Eden Mennonite church as the treasurer and helping to lead praise and worship keeps her on the go most of the time.
Being a wife to Chris Hardy, mother to two wonderful kids, Zachary and Kately, volunteering for the school and her church, as well as working for the past 26 years at the Chouteau Bank of Commerce keeps Sheila a pretty busy lady.
“I started working at the bank after school and that job has continued and been a wonderful blessing to me,” said Sheila.
In the little free time she manages to find Sheila enjoys being creative with scrapbooking, spending quality time with friends and family, running, and making her yard beautiful with a variety of plants and flowers.
Growing up Sheila played basketball, ran track, and served as manager for the Chouteau High School girls basketball team after being told her lack of height was an issue for the sport.
“So thankful kids are not told that these days,” said Sheila. “Sometimes the shortest person can be the mightiest.”
