Sequoyah Claremore’s Steven Holt is a three-sport student-athlete and a member of the FFA chapter at school. As a freshman, Holt has enjoyed all of the activities he’s experienced this year.
“I run cross country in the fall, play basketball in the winter, and I joined the soccer team this year in the spring,” said Holt. “I joined FFA this year and was persuaded by my family and friends, as well as my teacher Mrs. Leanard to join. I enjoy all the activities that we have done and enjoy spending time with my friends.”
Despite being a newcomer, Holt said he has felt welcomed in everything he has done, and the experiences have been great.
“I participated in the agriscience fair and was a part of the opening and closing ceremonies team for my school,” Holt said. “So far I’d say the most fun was staying in hotel rooms for state cross country or trying soccer for the first time.”
As for his involvement in sports, Holt said the seniors have done a great job helping the underclassmen navigate student-athlete life.
“We all get along great and they’re all good kids. We had a great group of seniors that helped us in all sports all year long,” said Holt.
As a new member of FFA, Holt said the upperclassmen have been great there as well. The freshman offers this advice to anyone considering the FFA.
“Don’t just join and sit in the classroom for an hour and call it good. Sign up for as many activities as you can, and I promise you’ll have a great time with each one,” said Holt.
Holt said his parents have always been a good influence on him throughout his life.
“My parents have always helped me with school and to find the time to do things and make sure nothing gets in the way of church. They’ve always made sure I’ve had good grades throughout all of school,” said Holt.
