Claremore’s Seth Bell – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Advanced Orthopedics

By Derrick Smith

With the exception of a few standout players, upperclassmen are normally called upon to start, while the underclassmen watch from the sidelines, learning and preparing for the day that they take over. Seth Bell, who is a junior at Claremore High School, was able to jump in early and help the Zebra football team. He says that, along with learning from a legend, is what has helped him become the player he is today.

“It was an honor to be trusted enough to start varsity as a sophomore,” he said. “I was able to have what most players dream of, which is an extra year on the field to learn and grow as a player. Additionally, to be able to learn from Lucious Selmon and to trust his wisdom, helped me every time I stepped on the field to make plays.”

Bell plays on the offensive and defensive lines for the Claremore football team, a sport he has played for five years.

There is a lot of work that is required in order to become a successful athlete. But Bell says that there is more than just the physical work.

“I feel the success I have been able to achieve has come due to the fact that I want to succeed,” he stated. “I want more than just to win. I want to improve my skills as a player. It has taken extra work in the gym, changing diets, and working on technique. Most importantly being coachable, not only listening to what they are saying but actually trying to do what they say is vital to any athlete.”

Seth says he has been surrounded by awesome people that have helped him along the way.

“My parents are huge role models in my life,” Seth said. “Through their examples, I have learned to work hard and to give nothing less than one hundred percent effort. My brothers are also huge examples and have taught me what it means to be coachable. Lucious Selmon, my defensive line coach, has taught me to embrace the grind, helped me to improve my technique and is a role model on how to be a good man.”
