Rena Wood

Pryor Mom of the Month

This month VYPE Magazine is spotlighting Rena Woods, Class of 1986 at Pryor High School as our Mom of the Month.

Rena played basketball for coach Paul Pool, and today she has one a daughter, Ally Wood, who is a senior playing varsity basketball for the Pryor HS and head coach Donnie Martin. Daughter Hollie played basketball and soccer for Pryor HS and continued her playing career at Northern Oklahoma College for two years. Son Justin played baseball at Pryor. Rena is a volunteer for the Pryor Booster Club.

“I volunteer for the Tip-In Club (booster club) for Pryor High School women’s and men’s basketball team. I help organize meals for the teams and donations that allow them to go to camps in the summer. I’ve volunteered as a coach for optimist basketball for the local Boys and Girls Club when my children were younger. I have also coached several basketball teams for my children growing up,” Rena said.
Being part of the community is one reason Rena spends her free time as a volunteer. “I love being involved with my community and the kids that are a part of it. The support of our community when it comes to sponsors and our Tip-In Club is always amazing. Being able to give each kid an equal opportunity to attend camps and be involved in basketball is always a great feeling,” Rena said. “I personally was always at every one of my kids’activities that I could be at. I find it was important not just to them, but for me to be there. The importance to me was just simply being there for them, no matter if it was their best or worst game ever. I wanted them to know I would support them in everything they do.”
For the Wood family, Pryor is a great place to grow up and attend school.
“One thing I really like about Pryor School systems is their diversity in opportunities for life after high school for each student. They present the opportunity to take college courses through Rogers State College, they also allow for them to attend Northeast Tech, and have even made opportunities for them to see what careers Mid America Industrial Park can offer them,” said Rena.
The Wood family enjoys attending music festivals and watching Arkansas Razorback basketball in their free time. Rena has worked for the Municipal Utility Board for 25 years.
