Participating in sports is about more than just learning how to play a game. It is about working hard to be your best and learning to work with others. Amber Dawson says that there are so many benefits to students playing sports, plus she loves to support her kids.
“Being involved in sports or other school activities is important,” she said. “It shows kids the value of being part of a team, building bonds, and learning to navigate through problems/issues when they arise amongst each other. I think it helps build self esteem, confidence, and sets them on a good path for when they leave the nest. It has always been very important to me to attend my kids events, to be there to cheer on my kids, and give them encouragement. I feel that it shows my kids that they are valued and that there is always someone in their corner.”
Dawson is a graduate of Pryor High School. When she was a student, she played golf, ran cross country, and was the manager for the Tigers baseball team. Now, she has two children in the Pryor school system. Abby is a senior and she is the football cheer captain and the boys soccer manager. Seventh grader Lexi is a member of the middle school seventh grade band.
As the mom of two students that are involved in various activities at the school, Amber says she does what she can to be there for her girls.
“I make sure to attend all their school activities that I can,” she said. “I help out with concession duty at middle school football games, and this year I’m helping the PHS football cheerleaders by organizing team dinners and finding sponsors for each dinner.”
As a former student at Pryor, Amber says that she is thankful for such a great school district for her girls to attend.
“I grew up in Pryor and have always loved the small town community,” she said. “It’s a great place to raise your kids. Pryor Schools has a fantastic staff, loyal community supporters, and continues to expand programs to get kids more involved. I feel very lucky my children are in such a great school system.”
