Pryor’s Carson Sill – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Northeast Tech

Pryor High School junior Carson Sill is a varsity soccer player for the Tigers and a student enrolled at Northeast Tech’s Pryor campus. Sill is taking courses in the Graphic Design program.

“I am taking visual communication in Graphic Design. In Graphic Design you get to do vinyl, canvas, and some graphics for the Northeast Tech news. I use Photoshop a lot for church events, flyers and editing pictures. I also use Canva for some logo design and flyers as well,” said Sill.

Taking the graphic design course has taught Sill a lot about advertising, photo editing and layout. There are many things about the course he enjoys, but the editing and creative aspect is what he enjoys the most.

“It’s been fun, so far. My favorite part of the course would be Photoshop. It’s easy and quick to use. I used it in high school as well. It’s a tool which allows us to express our creative sides,” said Sill. “What I enjoy the most about Northeast Tech is that they are a really hands-on school. They provide the technology we need and have teachers that are knowledgeable in the courses they teach.”

The Graphic Design course at Northeast Tech is giving students like Sill an opportunity to learn some of the basics of graphic design, while giving them a great foundation to build upon for the future. While the course is entry level, the students are pushed to bring more advanced ideas to the classroom and utilize many tools a professional would use to create a product. For Sill, the course has built confidence in his ability to create, design and bring concepts to life.

“I will use the skills I’ve learned at Northeast Tech in future jobs. They have taught me how to do so much and feel confident in it. I feel very good about using my skills if needed anywhere I go,” said Sill. “I plan on going to Rhema Bible school to become a youth pastor. And I also might do graphic design on the side.”

Sill said anyone looking for a school that will teach them skills they can use in the real world to look no further than Northeast Tech.

“Take advantage of the opportunity because it really lets you figure out your future. It is also a very hands-on school. They will make sure you know what you need to before heading out to the real world. You get lots of practice from the technology they have to offer,” said Sill.
