Brett Gwartney – Chouteau

Brett is the lead-off hitter and also the team’s top pitcher. He was second in on-base percentage last year and third in RBIs. When not on the bump, Brett runs down balls in the outfield. Coaches are looking for a big senior year out of him.

Derek Scuggins – Claremore

Scuggins has committed to play at Seminole State College after graduation. He is looking to have an outstanding final season of high school baseball.

Brett Burks – Claremore Sequoyah

Avery Graham – Kansas

Avery was the number one on the mound last year and hit in the four hole. Not only being a great baseball player, he is an even better teammate. Avery not only excels on the diamond but also in the classroom with a 3.9 GPA. He is a well-rounded baseball player, that is coachable and will give everything he has, no matter if it’s practice or a game.

Cayson King – Locust Grove

Sophomore player carried his team on the mound last year and was named first team all district.

Si Collins – Pryor

A three-year starter, Collins was the Co-District Player of the Year in 2022 and was named All-District in 2021 and 2022. He has signed to play at Coffeyville Junior College next season.

Jack Wilkins – Salina

The senior led the team in batting average and on base percentage last season. He looks to have a solid season this year.

UNDERCLASSMEN TO WATCH

JR Newton – Chouteau

JR is an incoming freshman this year. He stands out in practice with his hard work ethic, and has a great swing at the plate. JR should continue to grow in the game and help contribute in many ways this season.

Marcos Sallee – Claremore

The sophomore pitches and plays in the infield. He will look to play a bigger role this season for the Zebras.

Dylan Burks – Claremore Sequoyah

He is shortstop and has an opportunity to lead the team in hitting, stolen bases, and home runs. He looks to be a leader on the team this season.

Brett Cornett – Inola

Cornett pitched 42.2 innings for the Longhorns last season. He was 4-3 in district play with 34 strikeouts. When he is not pitching, he is making an impact in the outfield.

Seneca Steele – Kansas

Seneca is a great athlete. He is 6’4, left handed, and will be a pitcher that will be asked to go out and get a district win. He works hard in the weight room as well in the classroom. When Seneca is not on the mound, he will be in center field.

Ryan Sommers – Locust Grove

Ryan is a freshman that will play at shortstop and pitcher. He has worked hard to get where he is and will look to make a big impact.

Riley Hurst – Pryor

A fine young man with the potential to be a really good player. Riley runs well and had 21 stolen bases in part time duty as a freshman.

Micah Richards – Salina

He was one of three freshman starters for the Wildcats last year along with Jyce Glass and Teagan Byrd. Micah was a starter at third base and played the hot corner well all year, has good hands and a strong arm.

UNSUNG HEROES

Nick Lunsford – Chouteau

Nick is going to be a returning starter in the field and on the mound. At the end of the year last year, Nick was probably one of the team’s best pitchers. Nick is a leader at practice, on and off the field. Always stays late to make sure everything is put up after practice and games. Always wanting to be better and works on things on his own when needed, never have to ask him to help out with things, always willing. Nick will be a huge asset for us this season.

Zak Bridges – Claremore

Bridges is a senior that will play at catcher. He looks to have an impactful season this year.

Cade Goodson and Zach Singer – Claremore Sequoyah

Connor Pratt – Inola

Pratt was the Longhorns starting catcher last season as a freshman. He hit .257 and stole 19 bases. He is a great kid with great character. He is an outstanding leader and one of the hardest working kids on the team. He is a kid that lives and breathes baseball and it shows in every game that he plays.

Zach Majors – Kansas

Zach is a junior that plays catcher and hits in the leadoff spot. He draws the short straw when it comes to catching the bullpens for the pitchers but he never complains. Zach will also stay after practice and get his lifting in for the football coach.

Dane Turner – Locust Grove

The senior pitcher signed with Ottawa University in Kansas. He is a great kid and student.

Stephen Osborne – Pryor

An outstanding young man with a great work ethic. Spends a lot of extra time working on his swing and trying to be a more complete player. He was an All-District player in 2022.
