Dewey Boys Basketball Preview – Presented by Conoco Phillips

DEWEY BULLDOGGERS

BOYS

Coach: Lance Knight

22-23 Record: 12-15

Dewey will have a strong nucleus to work with as three starters return under head coach Lance Knight in 2023-24. “Have three returning starters and several young players who played meaningful minutes returning this season,” Knight said. “We are very excited about this season and are expecting some great things from this team.” VYPE Top 100 nominee Jace Williams is the team’s returning leading scorer. Williams, a 5-foot-10 senior point guard, averaged 12 points, 5.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game a year ago. “Jace has been our point guard for the last two seasons and leads us on and off the court,” Knight said. “He has a strong knowledge of the game and sees the court very well. Has the capability of averaging a double-double every night.” Zaiden Masters (6-2, PF, Sr.) and Ryder Muninger (6-2, SG, So.) are two other key returnees for the Bulldoggers. Masters averaged 8.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists as a junior, while Muningeraveraged 9.0 points and 4.0 rebounds as a freshman.

“Definitely is the face of the program,” Knight said of Masters. “Zaiden has worked his tail off to be one of our top athletes in football and basketball. Zaiden is the young man that every kid in our community looks up to and wants to be like.” Knight has high expectations for incoming freshman Austin Eastman, a 5-foot-10 guard. “We are very excited about Austin and our freshman group this season,” he said. “Austin had a great summer with us at camps and we are expecting great things from him this season.” Haven Becker (5-11, SG, Sr.) will give Dewey good leadership on and off the court. “Haven has bought into everything we do and is the type of player that knows his role and is always going to put the team first,” Knight said. Other key players returning are Zane Griggs, a 6-foot senior forward who averaged 3.0 points and 7.0 rebounds a season ago, Karson Johnson (6-0, F. So.), Gabe Villanueva (6-0, F, Sr.), Lathe Griggs (5-10, SG, So.), Easton Davis (5-10, PG, So.) and Caleb Whitson (5-10, SG, Sr.).
