As a high school student-athlete, Fairland’s Chloe Farmer has enjoyed several outstanding moments. Throughout her career, there have been big wins and buzzer-beaters and she says that she will have a hard time forgetting any of them.
“As I look back, I have been a part of a lot of great games throughout my career,” she said. “I remember my junior year, it was the basketball post-season, and we were playing Pawhuska. We were down 30 points at halftime and ended up winning in overtime! It was surreal. Another time I remember defeating a team with a half-court buzzer-beater by one our team members. That moment was exhilarating. This past basketball season, our team was playing number 10th ranked Warner in the area consolation championship game. They had beaten us earlier in the tournament, but we were more prepared this time. We ended up winning by about 20 points, and we advanced to the OSSAA state basketball tournament for the first time in 50 years.”
Farmer is a senior at Fairland High School. And while she may not step on the court and play for the Lady Owls, she makes a big impact on the team as a co-manager for the basketball team and she does a lot. Along with carrying the needed supplies and making sure that everything is ready for the game to start, she and the other co-manager, Charley Mayfield, enjoy working together and having fun.
“I really enjoy filming the basketball games with Charley,” Chloe said. “We would pretend to be commentators and cheer on the team with all of our hearts from behind the camera.”
Her school and community are both something that Chloe is proud to be a part of.
“I enjoy that my school is smaller than most,” she said. “There’s a total of about 200 kids in our high school. The teachers are super willing to help you and almost everyone knows each other.”
