A four-year starter at point guard for the Inola High School girls’ basketball team, Miller Weast is the leading scorer returning for her final year of prep basketball.
Weast said being part of the Inola family and representing Inola High School is something she is proud to do. The community and fan support are reasons she loves being part of the team.
“I love the atmosphere that the fans bring each game and all the love and support they show,” said Weast.
The senior is a versatile player who can play point guard and shooting guard. Last year Weast averaged 14 points and 4.0 assists per game. Playing for head coach Travis Wheeler has been a great experience for Weast and her teammates.
“Coach Wheeler is a very smart coach who has coached a lot of great teams, so he knows what it takes to win,” said Weast.
Wheeler believes the team is on track to make some noise this season and be a force when post season play begins.
“We return seven players from a team that was in the Area finals last season. We have the potential to make another deep run in the playoffs,” said Wheeler.
Weast believes the team is coming together and will be ready for the start of the season.
“So far, we are looking pretty good. We are getting better each day at practice. Just trying to get back in basketball shape right now,” said Weast. “My teammates are very easy to get along with. We have a good chemistry as well because we’ve played with each other since we were young.”
The goal this season is like any other, get into the playoffs and take it one game at a time.
“The ultimate goal for every season is to win a gold ball, but I hope that this year we are able to make a deep run in the playoffs and punch our ticket to state. I have so much faith in our team this year to achieve that goal,” said Weast.
In the classroom, Weast takes the same approach to her studies to ensure she has the opportunity to attend college.
“My favorite subject is English because I love literature and my favorite teacher is our English teacher, Mrs. Barnes,” said Weast. “After I graduate, I want to get my basics and then apply to a dental school and become a dental hygienist.”
Weast will have the opportunity to continue playing basketball at the next level and currently has interest from several collegiate programs.
In her free time, Weast said she enjoys hanging out with friends, family and her boyfriend. “My friends and I like to go try different coffee shops and food places. I love hanging out with my friends because their love for Jesus is evident and they push me to be a better human,” said Weast.
