An athlete in any sport will only be as good as the work that they are willing to invest into it. Little work equals little success, while a lot of work equals more success. Locust Grove’s Alex Porch knows this and says that while the work is important, there are other things that contribute to success.
“There is a lot that has helped me get to where I am today,” he said. “Keeping a good state of mind and a positive attitude no matter what happens in the game or practice are important.”
A freshman, Porch plays pitcher, second base, and outfield for the Pirates baseball team. He says that while he has different role models and people that he looks up to, there is one person that has played a big part in his success.
“My dad is definitely the biggest influence on my life,” he said. “He is the person that motivates me. He has helped me with everything I know, and he is there no matter what is going on.”
Locust Grove head baseball coach, Matt Tramel, says that Porch has worked hard to get where he is, and he has seen him grow along the way.
“Alex is a kid that may not possess a lot of natural talent,” the coach said. “But he enjoys playing the game and has worked his way into a part-time player. He is a good kid that keeps his grades up.”
While he may not spend a lot of time on social media, Porch says that one of his favorite follows is the Atlanta Braves.
“I enjoy following the Braves,” he stated. “They are my favorite team, and my dream is to play for them one day.”
Porch says that he enjoys competing alongside all of his teammates and adds that it is their chemistry that helps the team be at its best.
“I don’t really battle with any of my teammates,” he added. “If I did, I think it would negatively affect our relationship and how we work together on the field.”
