Locust Grove’s Crystal Reneau – Mayes County Mom of the Month presented by red crown credit union

By Derrick Smith

Crystal Reneau is the mother of three. All three of her children either have played or currently play sports for Locust Grove public schools. She says that while they work on their game, sports also helps them become better all-around people.

“Prioritizing my kids’ sports is very important to me,” she said. “Sports help them learn valuable life lessons such as never giving up in hard situations, confidence, resilience, determination, responsibility and self-efficacy.”

Reneau’s three kids are Chandra, who played softball for the Pirates before graduating, Trevor who currently plays football, basketball, and baseball for Locust Grove High, and finally, Abby who plays basketball and softball for Locust Grove Middle School.

As a working mom, Crystal does her best to be involved in her kids’ athletics and other events.

“I am a hospice nurse,” she said. “I am finishing up a Family Nurse Practitioner program. I stay involved in my children’s athletic careers by attending as many games and practices as I can and helping them practice at home. I encourage them to be the best players they can be and to never give up.”

Another important part for parents is making sure the community and school are the best fit. Reneau says that Locust Grove has been a great fit for her and her family.

“I love the Locust Grove community and school system,” she stated. “This community is always ready to help others in need. As a hospice nurse for over 12 years, I have learned that nothing is more important than family and that’s what this community and school system is about. They help others when they are sick or in need.”

While you will find her in the stands at most games, Crystal is also involved in other ways. She volunteers with the booster club, helps with fundraisers, and helps organize team communication.

While all of this keeps her pretty busy, she does find a little free time.

“ In my free time I love spending time with my family outdoors. We enjoy camping, exploring, and fishing.”
