Afton’s Landon Ford – Athlete Spotlight – Presented By Steel City Metals

Every school has an opponent that they consider a rival. It could be a someowhat new rivalry or one that goes back for generations, either way there is always a little more on the line when they match up on the field or court. As a junior at Afton High School, Landon Ford has no doubt who his school’s rival is and he is always ready to beat them.

“Fairland is our school’s biggest rival,” Ford said. “They recently beat us but we always are ready when that game is on the schedule.”

Landon is a multi-sport athlete at Afton. He plays outside linebacker and slot receiver on the football field, shooting guard as a member of the basketball team, and on the baseball diamond he plays second base. When he is competing in track, he runs the 4×100 relay. Ford is also a member of the school’s powerlifting team. Outside of athletics, he is a member of the Future Farmers of America organization and the National Honor Society.

Landon says that while he has put in a lot of work during his career, he could not have done it on his own.

“My parents and grandparents have been big role models for me,” he said. “They encourage to do my best and they are always supportive of me. A teacher that has had an influence on me is Mr. Sanders. He always pushes me to do my best at whatever I am doing.”

Playing numerous sports requires Landon to continually work on his physical  and mental preperation. But he also knows that his teammates are right there alongside him.

“I have put in a lot of work to get where I am today,” he said. “I spend time working out in the weight room and at practice. I have great teammates and we are always there for each other. Xander Mace is probably the one teammate I enjoy working against the most in practice. He is competitive and I feel like we make each other better. An under appreciated teammate would be Landen Johnson. He is always supportive and giving encouragement.”
