Fairland’s Avery Brown – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Grand Savings Bank

Everyone has someone in their life that serves as an influence on them. It could be someone that they are close to or it could be a celebrity or someone they watch from a distance. Avery Brown says that the people that have been the most influential for him are his family.

“My parents and my Mammie are the biggest role models in my life,” he said. “They have taught me to always work hard for the things that I want in life. They show everyone kindness and compassion and I hope that maybe I can have a positive influence on someone’s life as they did on mine.”

Brown is a senior at Fairland High School, where he is a multisport athlete. He plays linebacker on the football field, and on the baseball diamond you can find him in the outfield. He is also a member of the track and powerlifting teams. While he started football and powerlifting during his sophomore year, Avery has played baseball for as long as he can remember.

Success is something that Avery, just like most athletes, strives to achieve. And he knows what it takes to get there.

“I put in hours of work to get where I am today,” he said. “Workouts and running outside after school or summer workouts that we had along with finding a way to stay active during the quarantine.”

The biggest highlight of Brown’s career is the impact he has been able to make on his team.

“I have enjoyed being able to be someone that my teammates could see as a leader,” he said.

Avery is involved with more than just sports. He is also a part of the Gifted and Talented Program. In the past, he has also been a part of a couple of organizations within the school, Future Farmers of America and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.

There is some advice that Brown would pass along to the Class of 2022 that he has learned this year.

“Cherish every single second on the field with your teammates,” he said. “It will all be over in the blink of an eye.”
