Pryor’s Connor Propst – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Red Crown Credit Union

Role models can play a big part in the life and career of a high school student athlete. Not only do they influence the type of athlete they become, they also can help shape what kind of person they become off the field. Pryor’s Connor Propst says that he has been blessed with some great role models.

“The biggest role models in my life are my dad, Cody Propst, and my mom, Kristy Hinojosa,” he said. “For as long as I remember they have taught me respect, self-discipline, and hard work. My mom and dad are living proof that you can bounce back from anything if you work as hard as you possibly can to achieve what you want. They have put everything on the line for my family. There is no one I love more and look up to more than my dad and my mom.”

“I also look up to my soccer coach, Thor Campbell,” Connor continued. “He has been a big role model to me ever since joining the high school soccer squad. He never fails to swing me in the right direction, and he always makes sure I’m doing okay.”

A junior at Pryor High School, Connor plays center defensive midfield on the soccer team and is also the kicker for the Tigers football team.

During his years of playing sports, Propst has had success. But he says that success did not happen without a lot of work.

“To be successful in sports, it takes a lot of dedication, hard work, and want-to,” he said. “If you work harder and want to win and get better more than your opposition nobody can step in your way. I believe in hard work more than anything. I believe me and my soccer squad want it more than every team we face on the field. I guarantee we have worked harder than every team out there. With focus and determination we are just about the hardest team to beat.”

Beating his school’s rival is something that Connor looks back on with pride.

“The highlight moment of my career was when we beat our rival, Claremore,” he recalled. “I scored a goal tucked in the bottom left corner of the goal. It was a great win.”
