OFFENSE

The Warriors found themselves playing mostly freshmen and sophomores last year, so their 3-7 record wasn’t totally unexpected. This year they return most of those players and, while they’ll still be young, they will have a year of valuable experienced under their belt. Tanner Brown moves up to take over the head coaching duties this year and he sounds a positive note as he looks to 2022. “We are now a sophomore and junior led group after these guys started as freshmen and sophomores last year. We have good athletes at the skill positions, but we’ll be smaller in the line.” Returning at quarterback will be the determined Eli Wigglesworth (6-2, 180, Jr.). “Eli is our team captain and leader. He spent most of last season with a broken hand and ended up getting a cast on it but came back and played tight end. He’s also a great student with a 4.0 GPA,” said Brown. The returning tailback is J.T. Trout (5-11, 170, Jr.) and the fullback will be Lane Collins (5-9, 180, Jr.). The wide receivers will be Kolton Macanally (5-10, 150, Sr.) who played half the schedule last year after transferring in and also does the punting and kicking, Justin Johnson (5-9, 150, So.) who can also play tailback and quarterback when needed, and Hayden Taylor (5-7, 160, So.) who is coming back off a leg injury last year. The Warriors return almost all of their offensive line led by center Jeremiah Richison (6-0, 200, Jr,) along with Kaden Braden (5-11, 200, so.), Waylon Carriger (5-10, 185, So.) and Riley Rauch (5-10, 185, So.). The Warriors run out of the spread “that plays for three yards and a cloud of dust” according to Brown.

DEFENSE

Most of these same names will show up in the Warriors defense with Wigglesworth, Trout, Rauch, and Collins, who had 97 tackles and 12 sacks last year, at the linebacker spots. In the line it will be Richison at a tackle, Braden will be the nose guard and Carriger is a defensive end. The secondary will be patrolled by Taylor, Johnson, and Macanally out of the 4-3 defense. The Warriors move from District A-5 to A-7 this year with Colcord and Hulbert as new district opponents.
