Summer Murry is a multisport athlete for the Afton Eagles.
Murry knows that in order to be the best athlete that she can be, it takes more than just showing up on the day of the game. But she says that the work does pay off and she has seen it firsthand.
“There are a lot of things that go into being a good athlete,” Murry said. “A lot of hard work, determination, and never wanting to let my team down.
“I think my favorite sports moment would have to be when our team won the consolation championship game to make it to the area tournament. We all celebrated in the locker room.”
Murray is heavily involved in groups around the Afton campus. She competes in softball, basketball, and track. The junior is also a member of the National Honor Society, student council, FCCLA, and Interact Club.
There are a number of people that have had an impact on Summer’s life and have helped her become the person that she is today.
“My parents are my biggest role models,” she said. “In life they have both gone through a lot and they never gave up even in the hardest parts of life. They always do what’s best for their family and always puts me and my two brothers first.
“Another person would have to be my sixth and seventh-grade teacher, Mrs. Paslay. She was a great teacher and really helped me learn a lot.”
Murray appreciates all of her teammates and says that she would not have been able to reach any of her accomplishments without them.
“We all battle against each other hard in practice,” she stated. “But the one I battle the hardest with is senior Kat Osterberger. We are both very talented and athletic and work really hard and we push each other in every sport that we both participate in.”
In her downtime, Summer enjoys catching up on her social media. She says that she has one person she enjoys following the most.
“I enjoy following Brooke Roberts. She is a very good influencer,” Murray said. “She has gone through some hard things this past year and yet she still helps other people daily.”
