Welch Wildcats Girls Basketball Preview – Presented by Welch State Bank

GIRLS

Coach: Shawn Goodwin

21-22 Record: 13-10

The Lady Wildcats enter this season with high hopes and are looking to try to make some noise when the postseason rolls around.

Head coach Shawn Goodwin will look to his experienced players to step up and lead the team on and off the court.

“We return three starters from last year’s area qualifier team,” he said. “We will have to stay healthy and rely on several young players with limited varsity experience.”

Two of those he will be looking to for leadership will be Lydia Armstrong (5-8, Sr.) and Kailey Hall (5-10, Sr.). After earning a lot of experience last year, Armstrong and Hall will be expected to step up and play big roles this year.

Juniors Olivia Ashworth (5-7, Jr.) and Simmone Bias (5-7, Jr.) should be big contributors this season on both ends of the court.

A solid group of sophomores, Camy Etzel (5-7, So.), Cheyenne Vaughn (5-6, So.), Belinda Zacarias (5-6, So.), and Nicole Feltynowski (5-7, So.) will be ready to help out the team in any way they can.

Other Lady Wildcats to watch for this season are Jaylee Castle (5-7, Fr.) and Addison Keith (5-7, Fr.).

The team’s assistant coach this season is Bryson Cottrell.
