Vinita Hornets Girls Basketball Preview – Presented by Patrick Kauffman Shelter Insurance

GIRLS

Coach: Nathan Wylie

21-22 Record: 9-16

Despite having a young team, the Lady Hornets of Vinita, under the leadership of head coach Nathan Wylie, are ready to take on a challenging schedule in a tough classification.

“We are a very young team with some talent. We have four kids that suited up last season and return two starters. We are looking to build some depth and continue to improve every week and by playoff time I hope we are someone that no one wants to play,” said coach Wylie.

There are several players who are expected to make an impact this season. Tierany Trail (Jr.) is one of them. Trail will start at guard where her athleticism and range as a shooter are showcased.

“She can get to the rim and shoot the three. She has range. She is also a good defender,” said coach Wylie.

Emma Pigeon (So.) enters her second season as a varsity starter at guard. Pigeon and shoot and may be the teams best defender.

Brooklyn Pitts (Jr.) can shoot the three, but her biggest asset to the team may be her skills as a floor General. Pitts knows the game and knows where her teammates should be on any given play.

Sara Hency (Fr.) is expected to play a big role this season. Despite being an underclassman, Hency could be the X-factor in the post for the Lady Hornets this season.

Other players to watch include Addison Osburn, Haiden Smoke and Olivia Vaughn.

“Addison is a sophomore guard. She can shoot the three and get to the rim. She is a good defender and a hard worker. Haiden is coming into her own and learning her role and how to play. She is a tremendous rebounder. She is everywhere on defense and her offense is coming around,” said coach Wylie.

“Olivia is a sophomore guard who is very quick and aggressive in everything. She can drive and shoot the three.”

Calleigh Williams is another player coach Wylie expects to see on the floor this season.
