VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
Katelyn: Soccer has taught me how to work with a group of people to achieve a common goal. It’s taught me patience and how to work hard by pushing through the pain, to better myself on and off the field.
VYPE: What is your favorite part about being on a team?
Katelyn: My favorite part of being on the team is having a second family to hang out with. I am normally an introvert, but being on the field with my team brings me out of my shell. I look forward to practicing every day because it’s the one time I don’t have to worry or stress about anything.
VYPE: Why are you passionate about your sport?
Katelyn: I have played soccer my whole life. I have played a variety of sports, and soccer has always been my favorite. It has been the one sport that I have stuck with because I know it well and because it makes me happy. I am passionate about soccer because I have a strong love for the game.
VYPE: When and how did you first get into playing your sport?
Katelyn: I started playing soccer when I was very young, but I started YMCA when I was six. I just ran around everywhere because I didn’t know what I was doing. My mother and father encouraged me to play, and I never thought about not playing.
VYPE: Which professional athlete do you look up to and why?
Katelyn: For most soccer fans, the players they look up to are normally Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo because of their goal-scoring abilities, agility, and ball-handling skills. I, however, look up to Lionel Messi because of his assists. As of 2021, Messi held the record for most assists in soccer history with 315. I aspire to be like him in that sense because I love passing and setting up my teammates for good scoring opportunities.
VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation, where do you go and who do you take with you?
Katelyn: If I could pick any place for a summer vacation, I would go to the YMCA of the Adirondacks on Lake George in Silver Bay, New York. That is where I travel every year with family and family from other states. Silver Bay is like my second home, which I hope to visit every year or almost every year for the rest of my life. I would love for my family to continue going as well.
VYPE: Are you involved in any other activities?
Katelyn: I am involved in a variety of school clubs, such as the National Honors Society, Character Counts, and the Math Club as well as a senior class representative. I am on the Bank of Grand Lake Junior Bank Board, and I am on the Integris Hospital Junior Board.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade and why?
Katelyn: My favorite teacher would have to be my first-grade teacher, Mrs. Bilby. Yes, it was a long time ago, but when I first moved to Grove, she was not only my first teacher here but also the first teacher to ever understand me and my personality. She changed my life more than she knows, and I will never forget her.
VYPE: Here is your chance to give a shoutout or say thank you to anyone you wish.
Katelyn: I would like to thank my family, specifically my mother, Lynn, who has helped and pushed me through everything. I would like to thank my sister, Allie, who, even though we don’t always get along, motivates me by being my competition. I would also like to thank my grandfather, David Adzigian. He is my other inspiration, and without him and his good example, I would not be where I am today. Lastly, I would like to thank my coaches, who make me a better player and teammate.
