CANEY VALLEY TROJANS
Coach: STEPHEN MITCHELL
1-9
OFFENSE
Caney Valley head coach Stephen Miller expects better results in 2023. “We will be a much-improved team from last year,” he said. “We should be high tempo and flying to the ball on defense. Looking to improve on last year’s record.” The offense will be sparked by wide receivers Cooper Fogle (5-6, 140, Sr.) and Zakary Ketchum (6-0, 145, Sr.), and running back Kaydon Dawes (6-0, 185, Sr.). Fogle had over 500 yards receiving with six touchdowns as a junior and is a VYPE Top 100 selection. He’s also very productive on defense. Ketchum had over 400 receiving yards and three touchdowns in 2022. “Very hard-working kid that plays DB and receiver,” Miller said. “Can catch anything and is overall a great kid.” Noah Mitchell is expected to be the signal caller for Caney Valley’s spread offense. “Great kid, probably going to play QB for us this year. Great Arm, vision, and smarts for an underclassman,” Miller said.
“ ”DEFENSE
Cooper Fogle will be the key piece defensively for the Trojans. He had over 100 tackles last season with three interceptions and 12 pass breakups at the free safety position. Caney Valley will use both the 4-3 and 4-4-3 alignments under defensive coordinator Ryan Malone, who returns six starters. Zackary Ketchum will be the leader in defensive backfield after totaling 50 tackles, a pair of interceptions and five pass breakups last year. Levi Allen (5-10, 230, Sr.) will play a role at linebacker. Allen collected over 50 tackles as a junior in 2022. Caleb Meecham will coach the outside linebackers, and Wade Wolf will work with the defensive linemen.
